Toxicology Expert-Plant and Livestock

Berkshire | Up to £50,000

A global agricultural business committed to sustainable agriculture is looking for a technical expert to join their product metabolism group. Specialist within their field, this organization has become the leading provider of seeds and crop protection products around the world.

Joining an established scientific group, you will be working closely with international regulators and research bodies, providing expertise on regulatory guidelines for plant and livestock metabolism studies.

You will be responsible for:

  • Representing the department on integrated metabolism projects
  • Advising the department on regulatory changes by attending cross industry working groups and method development meetings
  • Working with external suppliers ensuring Syngenta’s needs are addressed
  • Exploit collaborative project opportunities by building effective scientific relationships with internal and external groups

You will ideally have a Degree or PhD (or equivalent) in Chemistry or Biochemistry. Although experience in project management and project leadership is desirable, strong scientific knowledge of the area is more important than previous management experience.

You will also have:

  • Between 2-5 years experience working in an ADME, environmental fate, or plant and livestock group
  • The ability to complete projects whilst managing regulatory strategies and scientific challenges
  • Strong influencing and communication skills, working effectively across various internal and external project teams
  • The ability to deliver and formulate strategies to maintain the long term sustainability of the group’s capabilities

Environmental Fate Modeller (1-2 year contract)

Principal Ecologist

Northern Home Counties | Up to £45,000

Acre is currently working with an award winning, international Consultancy to recruit a Principal Ecologist to act as Ecological Manager on a major multi million pound infrastructure project. Working with the high profile client on a daily basis, this role will involve ensuring the smooth progress of a major infrastructure project. This position will be involve taking real time decisions to make significant impacts on the project.

On a daily basis you will:

  • Review ecological audits conducted by the team
  • Monitor the performance of the onsite ecologists
  • Ensure the project is adhering to management plans
  • Liaise extensively with the client to ensure smooth progression of the project

The successful candidate will have:

  • Extensive experience within a consultancy environment or in-house
  • Proven experience with major infrastructure projects including highways
  • An ability to manage both major projects and a team
  • Full IEEM or IEMA membership and hold a valid CSCS card

This is an exciting and challanging senior role for the right candidate to bring together both management and ecological experience. You will be working closely with a multi disciplinary team, so strong communication skills, both written and oral, are essential.

Senior Ecologist

Oxfordshire | £ Dependent on Experience

One of the best known and well respected specialist ecological consultancies in the UK is currently seeking a Senior Ecologist. Working in a team of talented and passionate ecologists, you will work on a broad spectrum of projects with a wide variety of clients.

This role is split between the office and field, and will require a high level of expertise in both. We are interested to talk to enthusiastic ecologists who are looking to take the next step in their career.

The successful candidate will have:

  • A bachelors degree (or equivalent) in ecology or a related subject
  • An extensive consultancy background involving project management in a client facing role
  • An ability to write technical reports to the highest standard
  • A Bat license, ornithological expertise and a license with at least one other protected species
  • Strong field skills, including extensive plant identification skills, and the ability to demonstrate a good knowledge of a wide range of standard survey methodologies
  • Experience of Ecological Impact Assessment
  • Full IEEM membership

Knowledge of current legislation and practical demonstration as well as experience of managing sub contractors is an advantage.

Strong communication skills, both written and verbal are essential as is the ability to manage a diverse portfolio of projects at one time.

A full driver’s license is required; the role may include travel within the UK and over night stays from time to time.

Statistician

Berkshire | £25,000-£35,000

An international agribusiness committed to the long term sustainability of agriculture, is looking for a statistician to join one of their research groups. Central to addressing some of the planet’s most critical environmental issues, this group plays a central part in improving the health and wellbeing of communities all around the world.

Working on internal and external projects, this position will be responsible for planning, conducting and reporting statistical analysis for lab and field work. The key responsibilities will be:

  • Providing statistical analysis of key datasets
  • Providing guidance in the interpretation and presentation of results
  • Developing an understanding of customer needs and reporting
  • Increase the efficiency of project work through ongoing analysis improvements

The ideal applicant will have a degree or MSc (or equivalent) in a mathematical or statistical related discipline. Although not essential, some experience of applied statistics within a scientific research or agricultural arena would also be preferred.

Specific skills and experience include:

  • A good working knowledge of SAS or similar software packages.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate statistical analysis internally and externally
  • The ability to manage multiple project deadlines in an efficient and timely manner

Principal Ecologist

Oxfordshire | £ Negotiable

Acre is working with a leading environmental and planning consultancy to source a talented Principal Ecologist. Within this newly created role you will have the opportunity to influence the early stages of large development and environmental enhancement projects.

As the most senior ecologist in the company you will be tasked with managing and developing a highly motivated and enthusiastic ecology team. With the ability to communicate effectively at all levels, you with maintain excellent working relationships with clients and will seek new opportunities to broaden the client base. As such consultancy experience will be essential along with staff and budgetary management experience.

In addition you will have:

  • Thorough understanding of UK/EU nature conservation legislation and planning policy
  • Detailed knowledge of a broad range of survey techniques
  • Experience in EcIAs for a wide range of impacts, habitat types and species
  • Experience in the assessment of potential impacts on European protected sites
  • Licenses to survey for Protected Species (especially bats, GCNs, Dormice and White-clawed Crayfish)
  • Held licenses issued by Natural England to permit works affecting protected species (such as bats, GCNs, Dormice and Badgers)
  • Experience in the design and implementation of mitigation works
  • The ability to prepare and review reports to the highest standard
  • Experience in the preparation and delivery of evidence at public inquiries

In addition to the above you will be a full member of IEEM and will preferably be a Chartered Environmentalist. Experience in BREEAM and Code for Sustainable Homes assessments and strong ornithological and botanical expertise would also be advantageous.
