One of the World’s leading clothes retailers are looking to hire an Ethical Trading Manager with experience in international supply chain, a track record of managing retailer ethical trading programmes, and a strong reputation and network with stakeholders in the ethical retail community. This role will help to develop, deliver, monitor and maintain the organisation’s ethical trading code of conduct and sustainability programmes to ensure best practice and credibility, and link the ethical programme to the commercial needs of the business.

They are the largest European non-profit membership organisation, working with over 40 organisations to introduce and enforce European animal welfare legislation. They are recognised as the credible partner, on all animal welfare standards and policies, to major European institutions.
The Candidate will be a highly committed and experienced project leader who will define and implement a strategy to integrate animal welfare into European retailers’ food supply chain. Working alongside national members, you will coordinate consumer information and retail focus campaigns in order to meet the aims of the organisation.
Tasks include:
- Identifying, in conjunction with the Director, prioritised and time-bound objectives for the Sustainable Food Chain and CSR programme
- Gathering and analysing existing retail standards and developing a strategy to increase the importance of animal welfare in the European food supply chains of supermarkets
- Developing strong networks among key retailers, consumers, non-governmental organizations and other stakeholders in order to implement an effective campaign
- Establishing contacts with European and national retailers relating to their food supply chain standards and animal welfare policies
- Promoting animal welfare as a factor of Sustainability and Corporate Responsibility with key stakeholders
- Assisting and coordinating the campaign activities of national organisations in the EU

The Candidate:

Our client is a highly regarded international consultancy group who specialise in supporting organisations in developing CR and Sustainability strategies. Currently they are seeking a senior project manager to take the lead on a major ethical supply chain project in China.
You will lead a team working on behalf of a major European retailer, supporting them to meet social and environmental requirements defined by the BSCI. In particular you will lead in the management of a supplier qualification project in relation to social standards in Chinese factories. You will undertake factory visits in the region to liaise with factory management and worker representatives on social and environmental issues.
Responsible for a project team of Chinese consultants your responsibilities will include:
- Project management and coordination
- The training, coaching and management of four Chinese consultants and other staff
- Development of training material
- Quality control, cost management and project reporting
- Organising work shops for factory managers and representatives in order to ensure high standards
You will have proven staff and project management experience and will be a proactive and entrepreneurial individual. In addition you will have:
- Experience with the implementation of social standards (e.g. BSCI, SA8000, EICC, ICTI, WRAP)
- A good understanding of Quality, Environmental and OHS issues and standards
- Knowledge of Chinese labour law
